NEWS POST - 3/7/2018

Welcome, Greetings and Hello All!

So, the Admin team has had a sit-down and we are going to address the problems that have ground things to a halt around here and present a plan to go forward. And you, yes you, will help pick part of that direction.

To begin, there has been some confusion on the way we are doing things here. This is intended to be as open as possible in terms of character types in a setting of a modern Military Sandbox RPG, not centered on any one area. Simply put, there has been some confusion on the subject because some have been under the impression it was supposed to be Special Forces focused. It is not, as long as the role contributes to the plot, it is relevant.

Next, to reiterate a point, we are not going forward with people showing up with 20+ NPCs and not interacting with anyone but their own NPCs. This is supposed to be a community, the only way this happens is that we keep the PCs together as much as possible. No one should be showing up with their own entire teams unless given special permission to do so by the Admin team. Failure to adhere to this rule in the future will result in action being taken. The logic here is thus; we're here to write together, and just going off to do your own thing with NPCs and never interacting with others is basically taking up everyone's time and this board to write your own fan fiction.

Now the direction - we are closing off all current ops and advancing the story to a large scale conflict that will be the backdrop for all future actions, as low intensity conflicts as we have been doing have largely proven to alienate other writers' characters or forced unrealistic plot elements to incorporate everyone. A full blown war is pretty much needed to keep as many options open for players. The Admin team have decided on three options to put to you all for a vote. The winning selection becomes our story direction. Please, in your response, clearly indicate which option you want at the start before formulating any responses.

OPTION 1 - Resumed hostilities on the Korean Peninsula

OPTION 2 - A South American conflict involving an OPFOR of Venezuela, Argentina and one as of yet to be determined beligerant invading Brazil.

OPTION 3 - Post Civil War (government victors) Syria, Turkey and Iran invade Iraq to engage the Kurdish population.

Thank you all for your time and understanding. Do not hesitate to bring any issues up to the Admin Team.

UPDATE - 3/13/2018

Okay, so the site went down over the weekend, but voting was still done via Discord. We currently stand as thus:

Middle East: 1
Korea: 4
South America: 1

VOTING ENDS THIS FRIDAY ON 3/16/2018

Once all votes are in and tallied, we will take this weekend to lay out the transition and begin operations in the AO that has been voted on. If you have not yet voted, you should do so by 3/16. We cannot count votes that are not submitted, obviously, so either respond via this post, let an Admin know via PM, or speak up on Discord.

UPDATE - 3/17/2018

At 5 votes, Korea is the next AO as decided by everyone who has voted.

We will be working to lay out new ops for this AO to go live within a week or so. All current ops are to be considered resolved and will be dealt with later on. But I'm going to reiterate a couple ground rules while I'm here.

1 - There will be no NPC filled teams with one PC running around. Approved members may have or use NPCs at the approval of the Admin Team, and that will be highly limited. This means that a PC cannot rock up with an entire squad of NPCs and then go do their own thing, this interferes with the writing because now you are not obliged to interact with the story or any other characters. We will have sign-ups for operations at every step so everyone knows who is bringing to the occasion, and a sign-up MUST be completed prior to posting in an operation. If a sign-up is not posted prior to joining an operation or if a player brings unapproved NPCs onto a mission (briefing personnel, support staff back at base and similar types are exempt from this rule so long as they do not keep a PC from interacting with anyone else except that NPC), your post will be taken down and you will be reminded of this rule. Repeat offenders will be dealt with accordingly.

2 - Please try to consider the operation you are signing up for when you bring a character in. We will try to accommodate where we can, but we cannot completely change an operation and its story because your character is not appropriate for the task at hand. We understand that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but we also need to consider everyone equally and the flow of the story going forward.

3 - Operations will be pre-approved by the Admin Team prior to it being set to live, and approval means that 3/4ths of the Admin Team must approve of any story concept or operation. Side missions and side stories also require approval, and are subject to termination if the Admin Team deems that it is detracting from the main plot or otherwise hindering the advancement of the main story. Anyone who participates in a side story or side mission does so with the knowledge and understanding that they must still continue to work on the main story.  The Admin Team also reserves the right to declare any content as "non-canon". If a side story or side mission is opened without Admin approval, the thread will be locked until those responsible get approval.

3a - Operations are not to be singularly focused on any one character. This has brought us disaster too many times and those will not be approved by the Admin Team. Side stories can be, however, so long as all participants are of equal understanding of that condition, and should be expressed as such when requesting approval from the Admin Team. Side stories are the one place where the NPC rules are suspended, since if it is only one person writing, they cannot write with just one person in a vacuum.

This all sounds harsh, but these are issues that have been identified as leading issues around here as of late. We are moving to a large scale situation to address some of our problems, but the others have to be clearly stated. The goal here is that we want to improve how things have run here. But above all else, please be mindful and respectful of your fellow players. No one wants to play second fiddle to anyone else, much less someone writing their character as a Delta Ranger Astronaut Sniper Tanker Pilot Spy Seal Payroll POG Lawyer Rock Star. So be considerate and don't be afraid to ask for constructive feedback.
